Ficheall is a teacher-led organisation which aims to promote the playing of chess in Irish primary schools using a 3-stage approach:

1 – Participate

Ficheall provide support and lesson plans for teachers to teach chess in their class or as an extra-curricular activity and establish an in-school chess league.

2 – Represent

Ficheall organise one-day regional tournaments for schools to enter teams of 8 players and play against students from other schools. Its all about children playing chess!

3 – Compete

Ficheall organise one-day tournaments for school chess teams who perform to a high standard at the regional tournaments.

In 2017/2018, Ficheall Bunscoile Chorcaí supported 38 schools to enter chess tournaments. This meant 592 students attended regional chess tournament playing 2,244 chess games in total!

If enough Ficheall schools exist in a particular region in 2018/2019 will organise a tournament for that region!
